Alia Muhammad Shabazz
President, 2026-2028

Alia Muhammad Shabazz has over 20 years of operations and human resource experience in the private sector and federal government. She began her federal career as a 2001 Presidential Management Intern. She currently works for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service, Office of Habitat Conservation, as the Director for Operations, Management, and Information Services Division. She leads a division responsible for an over $840 million budget.
Alia earned a master’s degree in human resource development in 2001 and a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1994, both from Bowie State University. She also holds a Certificate in Public Leadership from the Brookings Institution. She has been a life member of the Bowie State University National Alumni Association (BSUNAA) since 2016. She was appointed BSUNAA Financial Secretary for the 2024-2026 term, chaired the BSUNAA 2026 Election Committee, and served on the BSUNAA Scholarship Committee, which awarded five deserving students $2,000 scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Alia has been a member of the Bulldog Empowerment Alumni Chapter (BEAC) since 2018. Before being elected BEAC President for the 2026–2028 term, she represented BEAC on the BSUNAA Election Committee in 2024 and served on the BEAC Scholarship Committee, which awarded four $500 scholarships to students. As an undergraduate, Alia was elected Executive Member at Large of the Student Government Association for the 1991–1992 term and served as president of the Class of 1994.
She is the proud mother of two accomplished young adults. She and her family reside in Prince George’s County, MD.
